So far it seems like they’re leaving current passport holders alone because they don’t want to deal with additional work (and of course they aren’t allowed to hire staff). But if your passport expires during Trump’s term in office, they will issue the next passport with the old marker regardless of what any of your other identification says and even if you had bottom surgery.[/quote]

+1 This is not just an issue of identity - it presents a very real safety concern for transgender individuals inside and outside the US. If your gender presentation (the way you look) doesn't match your passport gender marker, it can create a lot of issues.

For some trans individuals in states that did not allow people to update gender markers on other state-issued IDs, a passport is also the only form of identification that matches their gender presentation. So the US government is holding peoples' only valid identification hostage. [/quote]
