DH is thinking Pisa. I am thinking Florence. Any recommendations of a day trip from Rome?
Napes to get to Pompeii. Easy day trip with a guide for Pompeii and Herculaneum, enough time to get pizza in Naples for the train back. Florence is a little further and frankly is worth more time than a day trip.
Don’t just get pizza. The Naples train station had an awesome bakery/pastry shop that was basically all Italians buying stuff to take home for dinner when we were there. I was a little overwhelmed but everything I got was delicious. It’s the local train from Naples to Pompeii so if you wanted you could get a driver/guide from Naples, who could then probably also swing you by someplace on the coast if you wanted, or Herculaneum if you want more antiquity.
