OMG Beauvoir is 31000+. Normal for early elementary or above average?
Normal for DC area and NYC Privates , yes. At least at Beauvoir, your kids lunch is free ( included in tuition) Sidwell and GDS are 30K, maybe 32-34K and you have to pay $5-$7/ day for lunch at GDS. ( and that is BEFORE after care, which is another $12-$14/hr). Maret is the "bargain" in DC coming in at 25K or 27K. I think in Philadeplia you might see tuition at Penn Charter or Baldwin more like $15K-$18K/ year, but yeah, basically tuition increases are an annual event in the Private school culture. For example, when DC started in Pre-K , tuition was $22K, but by 2nd grade it was $30K. All the Privates talk about how using tuition increases to offset rising costs is unsustainable ( will eventually turn parents away from Private schools), but this is unlikely in DC given the fact that people are just not going to send their kid to Wlison HS. That is a non-starter. Meanwhile to compete for the $$$$$ parents, school keep having the "sky is the limit" approach to spending in terms of " iPads to all Pre-K students" " a $100 million dollar weight room/gym" for a bunch of MAC league kids who woudl be bench warmers in any Public School, and on and on. Its a crazy scene when you couple ithat kind of spending on toys with the unrealistic expectations of the parents .
