That's not true. It's not random and mostly based on Map-M scores.

Is the selection criteria at Blair magnet program purely based on merit? Or do they also do a lottery in addition to looking at test scores, academic performance, etc.?
Technically, there is no lottery component. Realistically, there is going to be some randomness, since so many kids will look so similar on paper.

Map scores matter only to a certain extent. They have to make sure a kid can handle the work, but there are tons of kids with high scores who don't get in.
This is something that gets repeated too many times, but at least in our circle, every kid that deserved to be there (about 20 or so) got selected. In fact I will make an argument in the opposite direction. For some kids at magnet, the work is too much for them. I believe 50 to 75 percent of the current seat capacity would be more appropriate.
Because you are so qualified to be the judge of which kids "deserved to be there" and those that don't? You sound really horrible. I don't know any child who is unqualified to be in the magnet. I just know of a lot of other really brilliant and highly motivated kids who did not get in.
No need to get defensive.Plus, improve the reading comprehension.I never said an unqualified child is in magnet. I in fact said the opposite. Every bright one that we know is there I said. And yet some portion of the kids there don't have a good experience because it is too much for them. This is not an opinion. It is a fact.
What are you even talking about? Dc knows of no one who finds it “too much.” How would you even know this?
Maybe the kids who find it too much don't share their personal anxieties with your DC
But they share it with you, a parent? You sound crazy.
omg get a hobby
NP. You really need to get ahold of yourself unhinged magnet parent. I'm talking about the one who is putting down other kids and then insulting the other parents with eyerolls and "omg" messages like you are 12.
