Gold is generally a valid investment, depending on your purposes.  It actually is rare and has applications other than jewelry.  Gold jewelry has gotten more expensive over the decades.[/quote]

Gold will always retain value because it's a hedge against fluctuations in currencies. I don't think it has much to do with its value as a fashion accessory. Mined diamonds are going the way of fur. There is increasingly a stigma. Particularly now that lab grown diamonds are just as good if not better than mined diamonds, which always comes with abusive labor practices, environmental degradation, geopolitical instability, corruption, etc. Family heirlooms are one thing - there's sentimental value. But I wouldn't invest in mined diamonds expecting some kind of return. It's like investing in a mink coat.   [/quote]
