[/quote] I think the shortages are localized, which makes sense, because the egg producers and chicken farms serve a particular geographic region, and if those flocks have to be killed because of bird flu, the areas they supply are out of luck. Last time there was a bird flu-related shortage, I didn't notice because I get farmer's market eggs, and chickens that aren't factory farmed are less likely to get/spread bird flu. So my eggs cost about $7/dozen, which is a lot if you're used to paying $2/dozen, but not if you're used to paying $7/dozen. This week I'm probably SOL, though, because I suspect the cold weather will have reduced production. [/quote]
