Ds wants to transfer. H is currently a second semester sophomore so will be a junior when he transfers. He has had a bit of bad luck. One of his two freshman year besties transferred and the other spends all their time with a girlfriend. Rush did not go as he hoped. At a mid size private and thinking of transferring to a flagship where would not know anyone. Does have a serious girlfriend at current school.
Interesting that he is at a mid-sized school with a serious girlfriend at this school yet he still wants to transfer. Certainly fine to transfer to a large state flagship university where he can start over socially and enjoy anonymous moments when he prefers to do so. I attended a largish LAC for my undergraduate years and a large state flagship for my grad schools years. Hated the smallness of the over 2,000 student LAC and its lack of diversity; enjoyed the large state flagship during my grad school years. I handled the undergraduate years by studying abroad and by graduating a year early, but still retain distasteful memories of my undergraduate time spent on campus at the LAC. Transfer. It will be a new adventure in a different campus culture. No need to languish in an unsatisfactory environment which must be pretty bad if he is unhappy even with a serious girlfriend at his current school. I do wish that you would share more info about his current school because you might be surprised at what other posters have experienced and are willing to share. And I disagree with the poster who asserted that it is wrong to transfer based on an I'll fitting social/campus culture. Transfer.
