Seeking input from others who avoid soda for metabolism reasons (whether as the sole reason or amongst several reasons). I usually watch what I eat. But I will be on a long weekend cruise girls trip. Soda is included in the fare. I don't drink though other people on the trip will be drinking. Would you keep avoiding diet soda? Or make exception for this short weekend trip, such as in lieu of dessert or cocktails?
Do you LIKE soda or are you caving to what you feel will be peer pressure? If cigarettes were included in the fare and your friends will all be smoking, would you smoke just for the trip? Are you able to abstain from it after having one, or does getting a taste of it start cravings and set you on a path of regular soda? If you don't drink soda, then don't drink it. If you want it and can control it so it isn't harmful for you metabolically, have one. I was never a drinker, even in college. Rare glass of wine or even rarer mixed drink. I hate the taste of beer and saw no reason to "acquire a taste for it." I did drink soda and would get a soda instead of beer. Some people may make a comment, but then they quickly move on. It really doesn't matter if I am drinking soda or water - same reactions, same lack of reactions. Not drinking alcohol - or even soda - is not particularly stigmatizing these days. People know it's not good for you.
