Is that the going rate everywhere? $500 for 3 9-12 sessions?
That wins the prize as the priciest ID camp I have ever seen.
We’ve seen other, similar ones for high-level camps. My son did this UVA one a few years ago: https://www.virginiasoccer.com/camp-information.html Both the Georgetown and UVA camps were excellent in our experience. Both had college coaches who were seriously evaluating the players. I will say that the boys we know who are currently playing at Georgetown and UVA were all well-known to the coaches from other venues (DA games and showcases, major tournaments). We had some friends whose kids attended these camps who found it helpful because they realized, or it confirmed their sense, that their sons were not cut out to play at a tippy-top soccer program like Georgetown or UVA.
Interesting. My DS is under no illusions about playing at that college level but wants to do some serious training for a few days. Would this be a confidence buster in your opinion or worth it?
You really should only invest in an ID camp like this if you want to play college soccer at the school. It will be somewhat embarrassing for your player if they are Rec or RL level to be out there with kids from across the country and around the world (yes this camp has people flying in from UK, Switzerland etc) who are very high level (ie- DC United Academy, other MLS academies etc) which is the audience this type of camp at a top D1 attracts. Many of the other players who will be there pay this ungodly amount because they are serious about trying to get recruited and they need to be seen by the coaches in game situations. Anything labeled as ‘ID camps’ at top D1 schools are not intended as summer camps to help with individual training and development It’s intended to help with recruiting and to help the staff make money while doing so. If you want development go to the non ID affiliated camps (VA tech has one of these where you stay on campus but it’s not an ID camp- it’s a Nike camp). It’s more what you are looking for in terms of a way to spend the summer on soccer development.
