Arlington won't go MSL Next because they are not ready for that level of competition. The parents are sore losers so they will stick with ECNL where they are winning and make everyone happy.
Have you seen their U14 and U19 teams? Some of the best in the country - no matter the league.
The U-14 Arlington team is a pretty good example of how the leagues stack up. They're are a top of the table ECNL team with mostly lopsided wins, but in Copa Rayados against 3 non-academy MLS Next teams, two of which are mid/low table they got a close win and two draws. I think that's about right. From my experience in a different age group, the best ECNL teams slot in around mid-table MLS Next. The mid table teams would be bottom. And the bottom teams would be non competitive.
You mean a silly preseason tournament where all the bench players got most of the playing time? I’d give that about the same weight as another preseason game where Arlington tied DCU. Wait, tying DCU is not impressive for you bottom feeder parents at West Virginia, Achilles, Bethesda and Ironbound? :P Let’s face it, outside of MLS Academy teams like DCU, Union and NYRB, there ain’t a whole lot of difference among all the similarly mediocre clubs in both ECNL and MLS Next.
