The acceptance rate at Vandy is half that of Emory for ED1.  It’s very difficult.  If it’s your kid’s dream, then go for it, but it is more common practice to move to slightly less selective schools for ED2.[/quote]
The acceptance rate does not tell the whole story. Vandy, like NYU, and USC are throw away app schools. Kids apply just to say they applied. Emory is not that so the quality of applicant is likely higher. [/quote]

Having gone through several cycles locally , this just isn’t so.  Vandy has been an extremely difficult admit the past three cycles, both ED and RD.  Emory has been a medium hard ED, harder RD.  Maybe elsewhere in the country.

I don’t know what to tell you, at our private, Emory accepts kids ED1 who aren’t in top 20 percent of the class.  I assume this kid was.  Essays, extracurriculars and letters of recommendation also factor in.[/quote]
New year, also Emory likely just has a higher yeild at your school so is partial towards them. [/quote]
