Last year, my child didn’t get into AAP, and I’d like to reapply this year. He is currently in 3rd grade. Besides the iReady and HOPE scores, what other test scores are used to determine eligibility? Does my child need to take the CogAT in 3rd grade? Thank you!
The best route would be for your child to score higher on the CogAt, because that would be a strong indication she actually belongs in AAP. Otherwise, there’s nothing at all wrong with regular classes in FCPS.
+1 Please do not push your kids into AAP if they’re Cogat, IReady, and HOPE scores all point to general education being the right place for your child. You will only end up making your child miserable and frustrated if you push them into something they are not ready for (or do not want to do).
Oh sweetie, the only difference between AAP and General Education is math. If OP's child is good at math, they'll do great in AAP. Personally, we have opted out because I don't want to send our child to the Center and I don't want them stuck with the exact same class for four years. It's a nightmare when LLIV kids hit middle school.
Our center has 3-4 AAP classes per grade and middle school hasn’t been a nightmare for my AAP 7th grader. What does that even mean?

Most schools have LLIV classes. I would never send my child to the Center school.
