FCPS has updated its dashboard to indicate 2024-25 schools transfers. Transfers by pyramid of residence into TJHSST for 2024-25: McLean 133 Chantilly 119 Langley 116 Oakton 101 Woodson 92 Marshall 82 Westfield 72 Madison 66 West Springfield 58 Fairfax 57 Annandale 56 Robinson 50 Centreville 46 Lewis 39 Hayfield 36 Lake Braddock 33 South Lakes 33 West Potomac 33 Edison 32 South County 29 Falls Church 27 Justice 26 Herndon 25 Mount Vernon 24
That is 1353 total students. There are fewer than 550 freshmen this year. And you can't explain the difference with froshmores.
TJ has about 2100 students. These are the students from Fairfax County. FCPS indicates the base pyramids of those students on its capacity dashboard. They are reported as "transfers" although most of these students always attended TJ for HS. So there are 133 kids who live within the McLean boundaries at TJ this year, all the way down to Mount Vernon with 24. It shows that every FCPS pyramid is now represented but some continue to be represented more than others. Note that Annandale has 56 students. That doesn't mean those kids necessarily attended middle schools near Annandale. If a family moves into the Annandale pyramid, the geographical area of which includes TJ, after a kid gets admitted to TJ, it shows up as a "transfer" from Annandale.
Thanks! NP. In analyzing these numbers, it might be interesting to cross-reference race. For Fairfax County alone, the 2020 census indicated Fairfax has a white population of 47.12%. As a whole, TJ has a total minority population of just over 80%, with the largest cohort consisting of Asian students, while the census reflected an “Asian alone” population of 20.33%. This data is somewhat skewed by the newer categories on the census for “mixed,” as well as being 4 years old, and other factors, such as counting FFX alone.
If you are going to look at race, look at it based on the current school population- the total (especially older adults) is skewed more white.
