I don't watch cable news at all -- it's toxic. I subscribe to the Post and read that daily and I listen to a variety of podcasts that are newsy or news commentary but stay away from anything that is pure opinion or just preaching to the choir. I like podcasts where there is some debate and where they go deep into facts. I like Puck as a political news source and I also will check out pieces at WSJ and the NYT and a few longform magazines (the Economist, Mother Jones, New Yorker, the Atlantic). I also look at the National Review even though I don't like their bent -- I want to see what they are saying.

I also work to look at news that is not Trump or politics related. I've read a lot about the escalation in Ukraine recently and am using a lot of international sources. The Post had an interesting article about a trans athlete in college womens volleyball and how other teams are responding -- it was really well reported and didn't take a side. I stay informed on Israel/Gaza.

It doesn't have to be your whole day and it doesn't have to be engaging in emotional opinion on the news. I do get weary of Trump transition news and I will shut that off sometimes because it's part of his whole approach to media -- flood the zone with so many announcements and so much commentary that it all blurs together. He'll probably go back to the constant press conferences and leaks when he takes office too. I don't feel the need to consume all of that. But that's not the only news in the world.[/quote]
