Maine is a big state so it depends on where you live. I mean it IS New England but so many people have moved here from more temperate climates and are very happy. We moved from the lovely Mediterranean climate of the Bay Area and do love the seasons. Southern Maine/Portland area is pretty much like Boston, spring just about 7-10 days behind. Orono (location of biggest UMaine campus) is a couple of hours north of here so, yes, winter comes earlier and lasts longer. I wouldn't want to live that far north in a long term way, but for a kid who plans to stay/work in Maine and build local connections its not terrible. The campus is kind of in the middle of nowhere though, which is another consideration.[/quote]
