So here we are. What is the best strategy for seat gains? Which ones can we turn before 2028?
Where are the opportunities to flip seats to Dems in 2026? That's what needs to be a focus.
THIS. The focus must be on the House for 2026 as they will certify the election in 2028. And don't start with "but we won't have elections." We are NOT potted plants and we certainly don't obey in advance. We all have agency. Find a grassroots group to get involved with when you are ready. But don't wait till Sept. 2026. You get 1 more week to mourn then it's back to fighting. First step: Can your Senators and DEMAND they confirm judges and OPPOSE Trump catastrophic picks. If your Senators are Dems, thank them for being a bulwark (helps stiffen their spines), if they are GOP, demand, if they are MAGA, make their staff work. Lastly, if you are in DC, you can call Schumer and Durbin. DO THIS DAILY. Second step: Once Trump is in power Repeat above, include House reps on any bad legislation. Third step: Volunteer for any of the special elections to replace House members moving to Trump cabinet. Volunteer for any special elections to replace state reps who are moving to Congress. Bottom line, LEAVE NOT SEAT UNCONTESTED. Will we flip Stefanik's seat? Unlikely but make Rs spend time and $ to win that seat. Again, DO NOT OBEY IN ADVANCE. That will keep you busy for awhile. In 8 months (sooner if no primaries) there will be state elections in VA and NJ. Get involved. It will help you build your advocacy muscles for 2026. Give $$ to state parties! I know people like to give to ACLU but they are not what they used to be and don't only focus on building electoral power. We MUST build up our start parties. If not the full state, get involved in your local Dem party. If they are inefficient or corrupt, take them over. There is zero excuse for not doing anything.
