Does anybody have any observations that they've gleaned from looking at the rosters of clubs who have posted them?
Perhaps the biggest observation is that Paramount and VAJRs 18s had a larger than usual number of players coming and going. Here's a quick summary of what are likely to be the top CHRVA 18s: This season's Paramount 18s have 14 players on the roster. Here is where they played season: 3 are returners, 6 are from VAJRs, 2 are from VAE, 1 from Renaissance, 1 from MDJRs, and 1 that I can't figure out. This season's VAJRs 18s have 13 players on the roster. Here is where they played season: 3 are returners, 3 are from Paramount, and the remainder are from several different clubs. VAE 18s has 12 players on the roster this season. 4 players left from last year's 17s and they picked up 2 from Paramount and 1 from MDJRs. Metro 18 Travel has 15 players on the roster this season. 12 are returners from last year's 17T, 2 are from last year's 18T, and 1 from Paramount. Based on the players who moved, my sense is that Metro and VAE should be a little stronger than last season. Paramount should also be really solid, but it's a little harder to predict with so much of the roster being new to the club. VAJRs is probably a little weaker. Blue Ridge is also strong in this age group. They've gone back to not attending regionals and last season even turned down a bid they earned at a qualifier, but they will be attending Volley by the James, Charm City, Capitol Hill etc. Looks like the core of their 17s from last year is on 18s this year While I haven't dug deeper, I would guess the next tier of CHRVA 18s would be similar to prior years, with MDJRs, Premier (DE), MVSA, and Liberty Elite being teams with a shot at earning a GJNC bid at regionals.
Last years U17 bid tournament was BEVBC, LEVBC, MD JRS, Metro Travel, Metro North, MOCO, MOJO, MVSA, Paramount, Premier, VA Elite & VA Juniors. The only teams in that list that finished outside the top 12 at the end of their U17 season were LEVBC and MOJO. In a rarity of AES rankings, the U17 rankings looked pretty accurate because most of those teams playered each other head-to-head during the season. Of those that attended bid regionals last year, LEVBC, MD Jrs, Metro Travel, Metro North, MOCO, MVSA, Paramount & VA Elite are currently registered for 18s bids. Adding to the info provided above: - VA Jrs is likely weaker - as a PP said most of their starting lineup moved. - Paramount could be better or worse, looks like it depends on who plays the most. Paramount 17s were better than VA JRs 17s, so adding 6 of those players to the team doesn't necessarily make it stronger. The two VAE players they added were in the backup roles at their positions. - MOCO returns 7 players. They added 2 from their other club teams from last year and one I don't know. Probably the same level as last year. - Metro North kept 5 players from last year and added 4 new players, coming from LEVBC, CVA, Shenadoah Surge, and one I don't know (their roster only shows as 9 right now). Assuming the players from last year that aren't on their roster aren't coming back, they are losing a fair number of starters. - MVSA hasn't posted yet, but based on conversations it looks like they returned a reasonable number of their players, more to come once the roster is live. - LEVBC, MD Jrs, Permier, and MOJO haven't posted yet either. The rest of the teams registered for bids are: American, BAVA, CVA, EVA, MEVC, SRVC and St. James. Of those, MEVC, American, and CVA were in the top 25 in U17 last year but how they are this year will depend on the players they added/kept/lost.
