When this happens, normal scrutiny of candidates stop and gets subsumed by identity (gay or hunter) and relationships (“friend”) as mechanisms through which people rise in politics. Similar to how people rise through single party states like China of the old CCCP. The lack of competition for governance always leads to inferior, unqualified and morally corrupted people gaining power. [/quote]
