DS is at a competitive magnet (not TJ). He is a junior and the pressure this year has really been getting to him. Last week, he had a big unit test and was caught cheating. The test was out of 50 points, and he received a zero, so obviously this is going to affect his grade a lot. I agree that he should have gotten a zero, and he also received consequences at home. However, I really don't want him to get a B this semester since he is on track for T10s. I asked him to email the teacher about extra credit and how to raise his grade, but the teacher responded this morning saying they aren't going to allow that. I really have no idea what to do. Should I email the teacher?
No. The cheating incident should be on his transcript, too. Colleges need to know about his poor character.
I think your comment is not at all because you're worried about his character but because you want to eliminate the competition. Are you a 100% sure your kid never cheated? My guess is that the vast majority of the kids HAVE cheated and just didn't get caught. It's human nature and you're an idiot if you think your kid is not capable of it. THat's not to say I wouldn't give my kid a hefty consequence, but notifying a college is just dumb.
