My parents paid for me to go to a public university when I was a student but told me that I was on my own for grad school.  Since I didn't have to work when I was in undergrad, I had the time to study hard, participate in research...and was able to get accepted into a fully-funded doctorate in the social sciences.  I still appreciate their support of my education, to this day.

If they hadn't helped me with undergrad, I may have either skipped grad school to start making money immediately or selected a profession with a higher earning potential......so, I'm sure it would have worked out, but it is much less stressful not to currently have student loans.[/quote]
