There’s always a person on here who insists that the weather is wildly different in Japan in the summer than it is in the states. It is in fact very much like DC because it is hot and humid during the summer. Source: lived in Osaka/kyoto area for two years. If you would visit and do touristy things in DC in the summer, that’s pretty much what you’re gonna experience in Japan as well.
NP who was also there visiting in early August. It's worse than DC. It really is. When we were there, there were no afternoon storms that sort of cooled everything down - just incredible heat and humidity. It's hotter by about 5 degrees and more humid by about 5-10 percent. It's doable and I am so glad we went, but if you are tourists -- which means walking outside and going places - be prepared for the summer to be hotter and more humid than DC.
