NYTimes is reporting 8 deaths, 2700 injuries with 200 in critical condition in Lebanon. In Syria, pagers also exploded with 7 deaths in one Shia neighborhood in Damascus with strong ties to Hezbollah. And in a further twist of irony, the identities of Hezbollah members are being exposed in the viral videos of the blast attacks and the injured being carried into hospitals. The identities of Hezbollah members in Lebanon is a closely held secret. So all these viral videos and photos is providing a trove of evidence for identifying them, which will help to capture or eliminate them at some point in the future. Checkmate.
This is pretty clearly one of the most successful military/intelligence operations in history. People will be reading about this 100 years from now.
How is this different from Oct 7?
Seriously? This is international law 101. Short answer: The pager operation attacked combatants of an enemy organization in a state of conflict. Civilian casualties were minimal. October 7th directly targeted civilians of a nation not at war. Two entirely different animals from a legal/moral perspective.
Not at war? By what definition? The settlements represent a steady and consistence incursion on another people. Just because the US and Israel refuse to recognize these people as a country doesn't mean they aren't one...
You don’t get to invent legal definitions out of whole cloth. There was a ceasefire in place on 10/6. But even were that not the case, 10/7 constituted a war crime because it targeted civilians as its primary objective. Israel’s pager attack did not. Textbook “clean” warfare.
Call them what you will. Team Israel seems claims no one has evidence that Israel did this (despite multiple reports suggesting an unnamed US official confirmed that Israel told the US that this was their operation). Yet, team Israel is also claiming that only Hezbollah officials were hit in this attack. How can you be so sure? You trust the Israeli government?
