You don’t need a neuro psych evaluation to get a diagnosis. Shady Grove and Largo do computer ADHD testing and there are checklists to give out to teachers, coaches, and parents. My daughters computer testing did not show enough for ADHD but her checklists submitted did. That’s all we needed to get a diagnosis to start meds.
Agreed you do not need a neuropsych for an ADHD diagnosis. Our diagnosis came from Kaiser psychiatrist and confirmed by outside therapist. The pp that is asking about getting themselves evaluated - that is different. Kaiser does not do adult ADHD diagnosis and does have strict requirements for the type of assessment you have if you are getting a diagnosis as an adult. This is because of med seeking. But for kids you shouldn't have an issue.
Actually, you're both right. I was hoping for a full neurospych for my kids. Two of them are complicated and in fact do have an additional diagnosis. I am glad I paid for the full neuropsych but it was expensive. Once I had a diagnosis, I was able to see developmental ped Dr. Conlon, who was wonderful (he didn't stay at Kaiser) but my ped wouldn't give me a referral UNTIL I got the diagnosis elsewhere. As for myself, I would take ANYTHING, a questionnaire, a full examination, therapy, but I can't get anything.
