A shootout is 2 groups shooting at each other. This was 2 perps shooting at victims.
From Merriam-Webster: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/shoot-out
1: a battle fought with handguns or rifles
Now can you stop trying to wrestle over semantics and talk about the substance of the case?
From the MCPD press release: "Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined a confrontation amongst the 15-year-old and 13-year-old suspects and several juvenile victims occurred. During this confrontation, a handgun was displayed, the victims ran away and the suspects chased after them. A short time later, a vehicle was in the area of the 2300 block of Glenmont Cir. when the 15-year-old suspect shot at the vehicle occupants. The two occupants of the vehicle were uninjured." This is not what people think of when someone says "shootout" and doesn't sound to me like a gun battle. More like as a PP said a shooting at two victims.
You're picking up one version of events but as was cited in another source, the direct calls from dispatch, people reported an EXCHANGE of gunfire between multiple people. So even if you want to believe the version of events in the press release, since this is still an open investigation per the police and there are disputing reports about the incident, can you shut up about the "shootout" aspect of this and accept that regardless of whether this meets whatever your definition of a shootout is, that is an alarming and concerning incident involving MCPS students and school communities?
No, especially since you told me to "shut up". JFC. We don't know if this was a "shootout" and I don't think it's helpful to describe it as such. I already said above this is a very concerning incident and the fact that you are accusing me of not being concerned is pretty telling that you are just here to attack people.
You're literally the one going back and forth over the term "shootout." I think you're the one doing all of the attacking. Move on.
Looking at multiple news stories that describe what happened and they describe a shooting, not a shootout. Thankfully, the two victims were not injured.
What changes, in terms of the community concern and seriousness of the issue, in describing it as a shooting versus a shootout?
If you have to ask that question I can't help you
Good for you. I'm not less concerned if it's shooting vs. a shootout, but if you breathe easier calling it a shooting, then have at it.
