OP again. Hard to gauge the formality. It will be in the Detroit suburbs. When I’ve asked my mom about it, she said she just wants it to feel like a big party, and “any old dress” is fine. There will be a ceremony followed by cocktails and then dinner. I am expected to give a speech.

I did some sleuthing at Marshall’s and found the below:

May be too matronly. And worry about getting swallowed up in it at 5’2. Generally midi and flowy a line styles don’t work well for me because they overwhelm my frame.

I like the look of this dress but worry about the 34dd situation and it strapless is too juvenile? Maybe I could have a tailor add simple straps somehow?

I like the look of this one also, but, worry it might be too skin tight, and also the model looks like a b cup or so vs. my dd.
