Not if you actually love the person you're having sex with. And view sex as an expression of love for the whole person, not just as an end in itself for gratification.

If the BF thinks of sex that way, and the OP finds it "offputting," maybe OP hasn't always connected sex with love, but the BF has. Something to consider.

OP, what has he said when you've asked him why he prefers the term? You [i]have[/i] asked him, right? Because if you're having sex, you also should already be comfortable enough with each other to [i]talk[/i] about sex, including asking him about this, and exploring why it bothers you to the point that you brought it up to strangers to ask if it's normal. If it's normal for BF, and you like and love him enough to have sex with him -- why does this rankle?
