DP: sure, but I think the point here is that 7th grade algebra is for kids that are very strong in math and need that level of acceleration. If you have to prep significantly to get the SOL score required to do so, PPs are just suggesting that perhaps algebra in 7th isn’t the most appropriate path for that student. It doesn’t mean that student isn’t good at math, it just means that they don’t need to accelerate that much. [/quote]

This. My kids are not gifted, nor have they "prepped." I would not want them to test into levels they can't naturally grasp on their own. If other parents believe differently, they're obviously welcome to go whatever route they choose.[/quote]
