You all make me laugh. I raised several kids with no books, no manuals, no help, no cry it out methods, they watched tv and they are all happy healthy well adjusted adults with excellent jobs, etc. It never ceases to amaze me to read stuff on here and think gee how did our kids survive the stuff DCUM parents are totally against? Like they say, whatever floats your boat. You do it your way, I do it mine.
I've seen an excellent quote here on DCUM, and I think it bears repeating here: the plural of anecdote is not data. Nobody is attacking you for letting your kids watch TV, but it is troubling for a daycare provider to do something that goes against what is well-known to be best for small children. I'm talking about scientific studies, not your brain surgeon children.
And it's the most recent research that indicates that screen time in the early years may be a contributor to childhood obesity. My own children watched television when they were young, but if I were to do it again, they would not. The only reason I could see for television in childcare would be for a center or in-home that also has school-aged children -- on rainy days in summer or days off while other children were having naptime.
