I must say, I don’t get it. Beaches? Unbearably overcrowded. Boardwalk? Boring and repetitive…and the folks there at night. Dining? A handful of pretentious and overpriced restaurants. Otherwise it’s pizza and fries. And the traffic? So much new housing off off route 1 you can’t drive there anymore. Is it just an old school DC status symbol? I’m not from here…but that’s all I can think of. Old DC money who thinks it’s still a premier beach. We took day trips to Fenwick and North OC. Quite frankly better beaches and better dining options.
Seems more like a 2 night stay than 7. I didn’t grow up going and it doesn’t feel tony in anyway to me.
Eh, it’s a fun week if you do it right. Rent a condo in Sea Colony in Bethany so you can walk/bike to town. Let the kids run around the boardwalk, the arcade, etc. Beach bonfires, movies on the beach, music on the bandstand, etc. Head to OC one night. Head to Rehoboth one night. Head to Lewes or Henlopen for bay swimming. And hang out with other families you know who are down there at the same time. Swap kids for an evening or let the kids run around while you hang out on the beach after dinner. It’s not about fancy; it’s about family fun. But I get how someone who didn’t grow up around here wouldn’t understand the appeal.
