Looks like the women's marathon medal winners were wearing shorts and long tops. Maybe it's not performance enhancing to run in a bikini.
Marathoners aren't sprinting or trying to jump over a bar where extra clothing might cause drag or catch something. It's a different sport. You're also talking about a few inches of fabric. Who cares? What is it that you think will happen as a result of a few extra inches of exposed skin? Some man will get aroused? Well the potential arousal of men was and is the reason for expecting women to keep their ankles and hair covered. Yet most of the world has eschewed that and it's fine. So I really don't get why you care whether they wear briefs or shorts.
Many of the less talented marathoners were wearing bikinis. I don't like it when male athletes in beach volleyball, handball, track etc get fuller coverage when there were rules that women had to come out in underwear. Norway got fined for wearing shorts a few years back. I get that these women enjoy wearing not very much. It's a bit the same as high school where the boys aren't disciplined for clothing infractions because long shorts and t shirts comply with the rules, while mothers of daughters shriek when their daughters get sent home for daisy dukes and exposed midriffs.
