Their communist party made it a top priority to start winning more at the games to display the power of the CCP on the world stage. You vastly underestimate how important coming in first is for countries like China, Russia, etc. to show how great and powerful their countries are compared to the US. They desperately want to show they the US is weak and can be defeated. Doesn't matter if it is on the battlefield or in sport. They love to politicize it. This team USA is stinkin and letting Chinese soft power take over the world. [/quote]
