I though Trig and Pre-Calc were always combined, regardless of whether the course title is one, the other, or a semester of each, or some other variant.
Used to be: Pre-Calc was: Functions (one class) and Analytic Geometry (another class) and Trig(one class but could be combined with Algebra II). Now everything is one: PreCalc. Good/Bad - don't know.
In Virginia, there was a dedicated standard in the 2009 Math SOL for Algebra 2/Trig, which was in effect from 2011-2018. Districts used that to build honors Algebra 2/Trig courses. However, by 2016, interest in detracking was growing, so VA got rid of the Algebra 2/Trig standard in the 2016 Math SOL. That gave the green light to like-minded VA districts to phase out honors Algebra 2/Trig courses and put all students into combined Precalc/Trig courses instead.
