The time I went there were several parents who obviously had been going week after week with their singular issue with their child. One of them was even an afterschool issue off property. No one stopped these parents and it went on forever. There is no policing at these meetings. No topic to discuss. It's just a free for all.
OMG, I can’t stand parents who use public meetings as their own private conference about their snowflakes. This is how the AAP parents act at BTSN. Ridiculously self-absorbed.
At the meeting I went they tended to be immigrant people who thought the meeting was for their special issue. One of them was a guy who on the public street shouted something racist after school hours due to a disagreement between two parents and apparently FCPS was supposed to do something about it. It's possible they could have turned their issues into a greater issue to take action on but they weren't able to articulate in a way that went beyond their incident. They basically kept requesting that someone do something for their child or even them as if they were part of the school system. One person needed a translator, talked for 20 minutes basically saying nothing and having everything they said interpreted and then when someone asked a question about what they said, the person answered in perfect English. I was so mad I wasted my time at this meeting where this person was on the complete opposite end of the county, had obviously already made their case to the same people before, and had nothing to offer the general school population. FCPS admin also knew this person had spoken at previous meetings so why they were allowed to use an interpreter to tell their singular story again was beyond me. They have got to stop allowing people to just ruin these meetings for issues which should be private meetings with a family. Or they need to advertise that these meetings are not for general policy questions and issues that affect many but for any personal issue you have with anything that ever happened to you in FCPS.
