Flowers from a really good florist that is local to her -- not Teleflora or TheBouqs or whatever. Find one on Instagram or Yelp.
Flowers are so boring and 'typical' women gift. It requires zero creditivity and thought. Next someone will suggest candles or soap. Boring!
Candles and soap are trash. Flowers are beautiful and sends the message that her MIL cares. Plus it has the added benefit that it doesn’t create clutter. When the flowers die, you throw them out. Candles and soda go in the junk pile at the bottom of the closet to be dealt with “later.”
Know your recipient. Some women love candles and soap. I have a friend that shops frequently at Bath and Body Works. I never step in the place but I buy special soaps there for her. My nanny likes a few high end soy candles so I buy her favorites. I never burn candles unless it is a birthday or Hanukkah.
