Register early! I was waitlisted this year. :-( https://www.apsva.us/extended-day/extday-registration/
Which schools have waitlists
I only know that ATS did last year & Cardinal sometimes.
Its a real shame that an option school would have a waitlist given kids don't have an option to walk home in most cases.
They can take the bus and walk home from there, can't they?
Yes, though our bus stop is really far from our house, so I'd never let a k-2 kid do the walk alone. For many option schools that's the case. Because there was push to hub stops to reduce transportation costs.
I agree wait lists at any school are a shame, but I really don't understand the walk home from school vs. walk home from bus point. Are you saying the walk zone from a bus stop is larger than for a school? Schools won't let K-2 walk home from school or from the bus.
We know that confuses you, you've said the same thing on 3 posts.
Classic response when you have nothing of substance to add.
As Has been said multiple times, option school bus stops are often (not always) NOT appropriate walking distance to homes as opposed to neighborhood school bus stops, they can be hub stops, in which they are too far for elementary school kids to walk home from Alone.
If APS is making option school kids walk further from bus stops than neighborhood school kids, that's definitely a problem. I hadn't heard that before. Thank you for clarifying. On prior threads I have read complaints about the distance to bus stops but thought the issues were with both neighborhood and option bus stops, and just that the distance to the stop was further than before (but still within 1 mile). I wonder how APS justifies making kids walk further from a bus stop when they won't let them walk the same distance from school. (School walk zones are 1 mile). Makes no sense to me.
Cost. I mean, think about it they would basically have to have as many buses as all of the other neighborhood elementary schools combined
