DC is taking H Geometry and it's a ridiculously easy class. The other classes are also way too easy. DC hasn't learned much of anything in middle school, it's all so easy. Rigor at TJ is going to be a huge jump for DC and for all the kids. That doesn't mean they can't do it or that it's the fault of the admissions changes, as you are saying.
