TBH, I think it's kids picking up stuff from podcasts in the car, screens watched by the parents, conversations between adults, etc. Kids pick up and retain the craziest knowledge, even when very young. Our son would repeat stuff from conversations between my spouse and I multiple days later. He was absorbing it while playing in the next room over, despite not being a part of our conversation. Same goes for your young kid listening to NPR in car - they are absorbing everything. Some kids retain that info like an encyclopedia at an abnormally young age and regurgitate it at a later date.
I'm the Indian lady that killed her husband in her previous life. There were none of the above in my life. No TVs, although we did have radio, it was mostly used for music, news, and cricket. News is not the salacious stuff you see these days, but pretty much all boring Indian politics. This was in the 70s. It is possible but not likely that I would have overheard something, but that still doesn't explain the fact that I said where I lived, and it turns out that it exists. I don't find 'I was a prince in a past life' type of stories believable, but there may be something to kids talking about ordinary every day people they have no way of knowing about.
