We have done 2 cruises on Carnival but about 8 on RC. The cruises on Carnival were both "party ships" with rampant drinking and partying at all hours. We had a balcony cabin on one of the cruises that was two decks down and the second block of cabins away from the pool deck and if we were on the balcony or had the balcony door open, we could hear the band from the pool deck clearly, albeit at a moderate level. I can't imagine if we were any closer, how loud it would be, but the elevator lobby at the pool end of the ship on our deck (remember, two decks down) vibrated while the band played. The partying was so bad that there were buckets of beer bottles and glassware all over the ship. People would carry their drinks as they left the bar areas and just deposit them wherever they were when they were done and the ship looked like the morning after of a big party most of the week. I also saw teens sitting with buckets of beer bottles in the stairwells. They got young adults to buy them beer buckets and drank where they were out of site of crew members, mostly in out of the way lounge areas or stairwells. If you want your teen exposed to the party atmosphere and thinking it was normal or that they should be able to participate, that's the cruise for you. We've had much better experiences on RC without the drunk party vibe. We've enjoyed those and we've had extended family reunions on RC cruises. Something for everyone. My nieces have been on those cruises with us throughout their teens and 20s and they've had a good time. They've gone to the teen clubs and made friends that they hung around with for the week and they also enjoyed many of the activities on the ships with our kids (they're younger cousins).
The Carnival 7 night Eastern and Western Caribbean trips are nothing like this. You took a booze cruise.
