I've been in animal rescue for over 10 years. The most responsible thing is to surrender the dog to a dog rescue. They will screen potential applicants better than a shelter will. Screening usually includes checking applicants' vet records, conducting home checks to ensure the home environment is suitable, lengthy application forms, and interviewing applicants to ensure the dog will be a good fit. What type of dog is your puppy?
Havanese
PP here. As you can see, there will be no shortage of takers for your dog. I have fostered small dogs exclusively for 10+ years and know firsthand that young, small-breed dogs are highly sought after. Havanese are quite rare in rescue so even more desirable. Given the great demand for this type of dog, please don't just give your dog away--consider a rescue for their vetting process and experience placing dogs.
