We were told not to run south of the law school (60th), and that west of campus was off limits, including Washington Park, where XC nationals were held in 1971, even during the day. The current D3 program follows the same rules today (the track in the shadow of the former Manhattan Project building is considered safe). This is what is disturbing about the recent incident - 56th street? During the day? Criminals in Chicago increasingly can act without fear of consequences so it is not surprising to see them in former safe zones. My brother taught there and felt if you used common sense you were OK. Now, things appear to be OK until they aren't. An absolute first rate school. [/quote]
