Lima is not a great place to visit. Frankly quite ugly, and stressful to get around as the cars and taxis don’t use lanes. It does have maybe the best food in the world though? I’d consider going there for 2 days just to eat, but I’m an adult. My favorite non- food things there were the Gold Museum and paragliding off the cliffs in Miraflores (called parapente in Spanish). This was years ago but l just showed up and paid a guy for a tandem flight. Just googled out of curiosity: https://360explora.com.pe/tour/parapente-en-miraflores-2/ Cuzco and surrounds are awesome. I’m considering taking my own 11 year old there soon. I went twice pre kids.
This is SO true! I've lived all over the world (including a year in Lima) and the food is just amazing. I've definitely made the trip for a long weekend just focusing on meals and walking around the funkier neighborhoods. Probably not the most fun for kids. One small thing that isn't really an experience but a tip, is that if you are looking to buy anything (alpaca items in particular.) the place to do it is Lima. The markets around Cuzco are largely China-produced crap or better quality but EXTREMELY overpriced. Lima has a bunch of stores that aren't a total ripoff. Their outdoor markets for other things are also more reasonably priced.
