What’s your plan for cell phones? That age is the start of them taking stupid/inappropriate photos of each other in sleepwear/sleeping then posting them or sharing. I’d take all cell phones and keep them with you at a certain time. Like midnight. Make sure they and their parents know this ahead of time so there is no balking. You could decorate cupcakes as an activity… premade the cupcakes and leave them out frosting and assorted toppings. They’ll love all the sugar.
Kids will get super-bored without their cell phones.
Only "screenagers," as my teen calls them. Kids today, just like always, are totally able to have a good time - in fact they generally have a better time - without phones, so long as their parents have ensured proper in person social growth. This sounds like a problem with your parenting and now your kid, not with kids in general. On the other hand, make sure you let their parents know if they won't have access to their phones; many parents expect their kids will have their phone and will be concerned or upset if they don't get anticipated responses.
