I volunteered to send in a bunch of solar glasses to my elementary school and they said that FCPS made the decision not to allow it. This is one of those times where an overly litigious society really puts a damper on things.
This is one I happen to agree with. What if the school gets fake glasses? What if the kids don’t use them properly. With dozens of articles from trained eye doctors saying it’s dangerous and cause permanent eye damage, even with glasses, especially for children, it equates to negligence if a child goes blind. It’s reasonable for a jury to find a child with a lifetime of blindness is worth in the tens of millions of dollars in real damages. Insurance companies will do everything in their power to not pay these claims. This is a bad move by fcps. They closed for rain, but they’re going to remain open for this.
