Our principal's weekly email to the school parents last Friday at 5pm confirmed the June 17 end date. Pretty weird that DCPS is not even abiding by its own calendar and policies. What's the point? I'm wondering if the union raised a stink and threatened litigation over some sort of contractual ambiguity. Basically this is setting precedent that no snow day will ever be made up again in the future. If we have another Snowpocalyse, then your kid will just miss an entire week of school because basically the academic calendar is merely a suggestion. Also not sure how you enforce truancy when the Central Office won't even enforce its own calendar and snow day policies. *facepalm*
The union has no input over the calendar or whether DCPS decides to make up snow days. Why don’t you email the chancellor asking for an explanation?
Why waste time sending an email into the abyss of the Chancellor's office? I called Central Office early last week and they said they would call me back with an answer. Heard nothing until the principal's email on Friday. Frankly, I want my kid to get 180 days of instruction. You might let your kids go screw off after the 17th, but my kid really appreciates the regularity of a class schedule. My kid actually does learn and is engaged. My kid also receives therapies from school.
There is never 180 days of instruction, 180 student days but not all 180 especially at the end of the year have ACTUAL instruction.
