I disagree. Del Ray is the strong hold for the current mayor and council. That neighborhood, more than any other, should have to live with what they vote for. The world NIMBY is thrown around a lot in Alexandria and used incorrectly. But this really is NIMBY-ism. They support the policies and the politicians but then object when those policies come to their neighborhood. Also, you forgot to list the new tacky "modern farmhouse" McMansions that are quickly taking the place of the bungalows and small houses that once made that neighborhood special.
+1. Del Ray is where virtual signaling thrives. All those people are super smug in their self righteousness, 100% support ANYTHING the mayor, city council, the city manager and ACPS do, and they shouldn’t get some free pass here.
I can't agree with you there. I was at the farmers market this gorgeous Saturday and a huge percentage of homes had STOP THE ARENA signs in their yards and there was a large group of people at the market passing out info on how it is a bad deal all around. The Post this am came out with obscene projection used to prop up the whole thing- like $750 a night hotels and $75 parking. That aint happening. The mayor will end up with egg on his face with this one.
You don't have to agree with me but that doesn't make my statements false. And the mayor doesn't GAF what I think or what you think because he isn't running for re-election. And every single person you saw at the farmer's market handing out info or that had a sign in their yard to stop the arena would still vote for all those people, EVERY ONE. I mean, what is more Del Ray than your statement: "I was at the farmers market this gorgeous Saturday and ......."
DP who likes pedantry. You are wrong. Definitively. The farmers market post proves it.
Proves what? How much hypocrisy there is in Del Ray?
You claimed that everyone in Del Ray was lock step with Wilson. If that were true, there would not be people at the farmers market handing out signs in opposition to the arena and his other projects, nor would ___% of homes have the signs in their yard.
Do you live here????
Not in Del Ray, but yes I live in Alexandria. The "STOP THE ARENA" signs are literally everywhere. I'm surprised someone hasn't come up with a sticker that says "THE ARENA" to slap it on every stop sign in town/
Ha! I'm actually in favor of the reason, but absolutely LOVE this idea. Very creative, make it happen!
