For folks who are more knowledgeable on the 18s age group, how does Paramount's 2024 schedule compare to 18s teams at other CHRVA clubs? It looks like they played (and won?) two CHRVA events on the first weekends of January and February. They also competed in three qualifiers (Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia) and Triple Crown. Is that a significantly high number of qualifiers through mid-March even though the club season is shorter? It looks like the CHRVA Regionals landed on the weekend between the Southeast and Northeast Qualifiers. Paramount was the only CHRVA team at Southeast and only one of three at Northeast (with Metro and VA Elite). Had they not been waitlisted for CHRVA Regionals, tournaments on back-to-back-to-back weekends seems like a rather heavy load for any team.
I think the 3 clubs that consistently play in the Open level at National Qualifiers are Metro Travel, Paramount, and VA Elite. That is consistent across all age groups, including 18s. In prior years, some of the Paramount age groups would play in the USA division at some qualifiers. Other CHRVA clubs are testing the waters in Open - both MDJRs and VA Juniors 17s played in Open at NEQ last weekend. Metro 18 Travel played in a MDJRs 18 Open tournament on 1/6 and they played at Cap Hill in 18 Open so they met the requirements for Bid Regionals but ended up not needing to go because they earned an open bid. I don't know why Paramount was waitlisted. It might be as simple as they consider when a team registered in deciding who gets to play based on the qualified teams and the other teams registered earlier. As to whether Paramount 18s schedule was particularly heavy, I think that is mostly a function of the qualifiers (and Nationals) being earlier for 18s. In comparison, Metro 18 Travel played in the Windy City Qualifier, the Florida Fest Qualifier, the Ohio Valley Qualifier, the Capitol Hill Classic, and NEQ already, and will play in the Music City Qualifier and Under Armour National Championship, ahead of USAV 18 Nationals in Baltimore at the end of April.
