How is this possible at such a highly ranked school? Is it all smoke and mirrors?
Rank is irrelevant. DS played a sport at Yale; wasn't Greek but had lots of friends who were and lived near a bunch of frats his senior year. Says he saw plenty of hazing behavior-- naked runs in winter, forced drinking, etc. And then there are the societies; he says his did some mild "joke" hazing but some did more serious things. Maybe it's changed since covid, but was absolutely happening when DS graduated in 2018. Frankly it didn't surprise me; I was much nerdier so I didn't run in those circles, but I assume it was also happening at my T15 back in the day. Smart kids are still kids, and kids do dumb stuff.
