I am in favor of the county executive's proposal to the state to enable greater transparency and collaboration on the school district's budget. We leave a $3.3 billion enterprise ultimately in the hands of one person, the superintendent, because of state law guiding LEA organization. Superintendents come and go, but we need to address the fiefdom construct of the school district and ensure it's disassembled.
Yes, there must be structural changes to how MCPS is run. Ask each BOE candidate whether they support structural changes and vote out those supporting the status quo.
Can you elaborate on structural change? Can you provide concrete examples of how this would help the county function?
Start with this: https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/2024RS/bills/sb/sb1026f.pdf
Point out for us which of these things is not already included in the McPS budget?
Look at what is boldface and in all caps in the proposed bill. Key section is requiring county government approval for transfer of money that is 1% or more of budget from one part of the budget to another part of the budget. Point out for us which of these things is not already included in the McPS budget?
