why does Indy being state runner up matter? that was last year and a team heavy with Seniors who are now gone. She would have to try out still, make the team, and even need to make an impact on that team...... I could see all the uproar if this was a USA All American, or a top 100 player in the country... Again this isn't the IAAM or WCAC..... it would harm no one, not even the prior school to at least allow the kid to try out, or even play, it all seems very silly...
She is committed to play in college. Do you know what proportion of HS lacrosse players go on to play in college? It's around 10%. So, in that context, she is a "ringer," not some walk-on. From the sense of competitiveness, it arguably WOULD hurt Independence HS's opponents. It's weird that she kept stressing how she's going to play in college, as if that's some reason to allow this. It actually goes to the heart of the underlying VHSL policy rationale on prohibiting transfers from playing for a year. To prevent exactly this scenario. When it came out in court that an Independence HS coach is ALSO her travel team coach, the optics got even worse. The family has been launching a pressure campaign since September about this. It's only in the last week or so that more and more details have emerged that make LCPS's rationale to deny the waiver much more understandable.
