Make abortion a federal right until 16 weeks. If states want more than that, that’s their issue and they can decide for the voters of that state. But everyone gets 16 weeks, minimum. Problem solved.
No, problem solved.
More, or less? I’d go as low as 10 weeks. Maybe as high as 21. That seems perfectly reasonable
What seems perfectly reasonable is for this to be a decision made by the pregnant person and the medical care provider, like all other medical care.
In the EU, the standard is 15 weeks, and then every country has their own standards as to what justifies an exception after that. Pretty much everyone allows it for r@pe, fetal abnormalities, and health of the mother. Many countries allow it for mental health and economic reasons. While I am ok with this kind of thing on a practical nature…essentially, a woman can terminate a pregnancy late in the term by affirming that she is financially or mentally incapable of giving birth and/or raising a child, which is the fair result that we want. I still disagree with the principle of the government deciding what I can do with my body and making me disclose that kind of thing. It is NOT settled science on life beginning at any point before birth. And if you want to bring religion into it… I’m Jewish, and we believe that life begins at first breath. So there’s that. Unless there is a universally declared point at which life begins, say at the 30th week or something, the government should have no authority whatsoever on the matter.
